Over the course of this week, we got 4 new cards (or 5 if you count the Unit version of Tarkin separate from his leader card), so it’s time for more rapid-fire first impressions!

This card was revealed on the FFG Twitter & Instagram last Monday (with another Vigilance Unit teased for this week!)
Justin – It Binds All Things was a staple ramp card for Blue Hero in Star Wars Destiny. Interesting to see this iteration is more board control, providing healing and damage. Needless to say, since we already have Repair healing 3-for-1 resource already, you really need to hit the 3 damage to get value here. Ultimately, it comes down to how often you will have units sitting on the board with damage. I can see this being an auto-include in a Blue Sentinel deck, but outside of that, I doubt it will see constructed play.
Tyler – This is a situational card for sure. You need to A) Have three damage on your unit; B) Control a Force unit; C) Have an opponent’s unit to absorb the damage. I agree with Justin that this will be a staple in Blue decks, but is unlikely to get much cross-play.

Justin – As Tyler mentioned in his article last week, this card is quite above curve. 3/5 is already solid at 3, add in this ability, and you’re a very happy camper. Throw in a few cheap events like Asteroid Sanctuary and Shoot First (which allows you to snipe a 7-health leader the turn it comes out if you can exhaust it via Asteroid) and you’ve got a really awesome card. I see Boba being run in every villain yellow deck early in this game.
Tyler – The synergies here are pretty obvious and I’m excited to see a good version of Boba in the mix. However, this card makes me question two things about the wider game. First, the designers have stated that they’ve intentionally designed ground units to be over curve more often than space units. Given that, I’m wondering if, in competitive play, over-curve ground units will simply be the norm. Second, Boba is our first revealed legendary unit. Back in the waning days of Destiny, it seemed like the legendaries were the only nouns pushed efficiency-wise. That felt… unseemly. I hope that we won’t reach the point where owning lots of legendaries is a prerequisite for competitiveness.

Justin – Another seemingly above curve card with control on a stick? Seems pretty spicy to me. We’ll see how powerful the action turns out to be though, as the few games we’ve played have seen more unique cards played than non-uniques typically around the 6 resource and beyond window. An obvious auto-include in a Boba Fett leader deck IMO. Being able to slap base for 5 the round it comes out is fun!
Tyler – I’m not confident that this is above curve. We’re down 2 stats from a normal 6-cost unit, which we plan to get back with the Boba auto-ready. The question then is how much is the action ability worth? Paying two to exhaust a non-unique unit just doesn’t hit for me. There’s a situation where you’re late game and have way more resources than cards, but you’d need to build a control deck around that.

And finally we have the Grand Moff himself, Mr. Tarkin, but in leader form this time. You can check out his previously spoiled unit version here. The leader was spoiled by FFG on twitter.
Justin – Tyler was just telling me the night before this card was revealed how he thought green was definitely “not it” when it came to playing an aggro deck. Curious to see where he stands now! Tarkin will love the first-round play of Death Star Stormtrooper, giving it an experience token to start whacking the base for 4 Round 2. If green gets more efficient options, Tarkin might the staple leader for aggro decks. There’s also Tarkin in a late game control deck, dropping Relentless, Blizzard AT-AT, or other big units and beefing them up. It definitely seems like he will see some play!
Tyler – Yeah, it’s strange that the leader associated most with ramp is potentially the best aggro piece we’ve seen. His ability to stay on curve while playing low(er) cost units is tantalizing. Don’t know what other Green cards you’d throw in that deck, tho. The aggro use has a higher ceiling, but I suspect that he’ll be used as intended- to buff Green/Blue sentinel units while you ramp.
And that’s it for last week’s spoilers! Fear not, we are once again looking forward to more cards this week as FFG has already teased a Vigilance Unit to be shown this week, and we know that the FFG Live Stream on September 6th will be covering the command aspect and likely spoiling a few cards!
