At last, FFG has revealed some hero green cards and we can build our beloved Leia Organa! Apart from the Tarkin Aggro deck that has been dominating our kitchen table, this Leia deck has been one of the strongest performers! Let’s dive a little deeper, and look at what makes this deck tick.

Editor’s Note: This deck has evolved considerably since we did this write up. We’ll be updating it soon, so stay tuned!

True to our namesake, we start by adding 3 Home Ones and 3 Admiral Ackbars. From there we ask what color gives us the best card pool to work with? Cunning (Yellow) gives us some cool stall tricks in Leia Organa (the unit), Shoot First, and Waylay (which is particularly strong against the Tarkin aggro deck!).

From there, currently, our only ramp option is Resupply, so we throw in 3 of those to ramp towards Home One, if necessary. The droid draw engine is basically an auto include in hero decks at the moment, so we add 3 of C-3PO and R2-D2. (They’re also Rebels who can be buffed by Dodonna.)

In space, we have to ensure we don’t get overwhelmed before Home One comes out, so we’ll take the basic Hero package right now of 3 Alliance X-Wings and 3 Wing Leaders. Six is a little lean, so we’ll add 2 of the yellow ambush option of Auzituck Liberator Gunship.

I’m not sure you want to run a Hero Yellow deck without Han Solo currently, so we grab 3 of him. From there, the Rebel keyword is prevalent in the deck, so we’ll add General Dodonna, Fleet Lieutenant, Rogue Operative, and Rebel Pathfinder. There’s an argument for adding the recently spoiled (Thanks What a Junk Podcast!) Colonel Yularen over Rebel Pathfinder, but right now I prefer the Rebel tribal effect on Pathfinder over Yularen’s heal.

We finish our 50 with 3 Chewbaccas to give us a mid-game Sentinel option.

Play style

Depending on the opponent, you’ll typically operate the deck as aggro and put pressure on your opponent early. Don’t forget Leia Organa joins the battlefield at 5 resources!

You have 2 paths each round on the rationale for how you use her leader ability. You can use it to combine 2 attacks to wipe a unit off the board in one action, or you can use it to gain tempo and keep initiative.

In an ideal world, you’ll get 20+ damage on the opponent’s base by the time you get to 8 resources and drop Home One. It should sustain you on that final push to 30.

What kind of cards are we looking to add?

With just over 33% of the card pool revealed at the moment, there is plenty of room for new cards to be spoiled and slot into this deck. Here’s a wishlist of cards I’d like to see that would fit:

  • More efficient space units (looking to replace Alliance X-Wing and Auzituck)
  • Better removal than Waylay
  • A Sentinel around Chewie’s cost/power level that is also a Rebel to fit with Dodonna
  • Anything more efficient than the cards we already have

What cards are on the chopping block?

Waylay – First and foremost, unless the meta is heavy Tarkin, there are a lot of times where Waylay is not the answer I want in hand. It can produce high value by sending 8+ cost units back to hand if they’re played late game, but, generally, in this deck you are trying to win before that. A Rebel version of Maximum Firepower would be an easy add!

Chewbacca – My only real complaint here is that Chewie doesn’t fit our Rebel Tribal. Unless we see a comparable Rebel unit in the 4-6 cost range, we’ll likely keep Chewie.

Auzituck Liberator Gunship – Very similar to Chewbacca, I don’t like missing out on the Rebel tribal. We get the Ambush keyword to wipe a unit off the board before it can hit us, though.

That’s all for today! Have you gotten any games in yet with Leia leader or Home One? How are you building yours? What’s your favorite deck to play so far?

One response to “Leia’s Home One Derby! (Deck Tech)”

  1. […] At last, September has been dubbed Command month, and FFG has slowly released Green Hero cards! Leia Leader loves the Rebel tribal within the plain Hero aspect cards and Yellow, so naturally you would want to start building there. The Home One and Admiral Ackbar reveals leave us another high value synergistic combo to throw in. You can take a deeper look at our deckbuilding thoughts on what we call “Home One Derby” in last week’s article. […]
