ICYMI Wednesday, Fantasy Flight Games gave us final information for all product offerings for Star Wars Unlimited launch. They also took a deeper dive through what “Casual” Organized Play will look like on release and thereafter! You can watch the stream here, or checkout their article here.

First thing first, FFG announced that the “Pre-Release” Sealed format will actually be a product you purchase, as opposed to just 6 Booster packs. It will come with 6 Spark of Rebellion Booster Packs, 2 promo cards, quickstart rules, damage counters, a deckbuilding guide, and a deckbox. The price comes out the same as if you had bought 6 Booster packs (price per pack listed below), so you get all the other goodies for free! The best part is: it includes everything needed to play the game. The 2 promos are an alternate art Luke leader and Darth Vader Leader (pictured below) that you can also build your sealed deck with. I’m looking forward to attending as many Pre-release events as I can!

Next,we got the final piece of the puzzle for the 2-Player Starter- a price point of $34.99. That’s right around my previous guess in our article discussing what makes a good Starter Set! If you missed it, this box comes with two pre-built, 50-card decks that you can unpack and play right away, along with a plethora of damage counters, quickstart rules, 2 paper playmats, and 2 folded deckboxes. Important to note: there are 10 cards (including Vader/Luke leaders) that are only found in the Starter set, but the 8 cards that aren’t Leaders all include 3 copies for a playset. I’m a huge fan of only having to buy 1 FFG starter for once!

We also got the price point for boosters of $4.99 a pack, or $119.76 for a Booster Box. They also confirmed there will be 6 boxes in a case, so that eliminates the predictions that a case might include 12 boxes and a guaranteed Showcase leader. Overall, I’m happy with the price point, as it allows us to draft for $15. I was worried after Lorcana launched at $6 a pack that FFG might follow suit. Important to note, that as Fantasy Flight Games is owned by Asmodee, they run the Asmodee MAP Policy which basically means the lowest advertised price you can ever see for booster boxes will be 20% off at $95.81.

Next, Josh Massey took the reigns and started walking us through the Organized Play (C3-0P, hehe) structure at launch. With the pre-release, a “Launch Kit” will be shipped to stores that will include bases of every color to supplement every player. This will ensure that every player can build with whatever colored base they would like for the sealed format of the Pre-release. There are also additional booster packs included as prize support. I’m curious to see if the all bases available format will carry over to full-time Limited play, but FFG answered in chat that they will unveil the rules for that soon.

Next Josh walked us through the “Weekly Play Kit,” which is definitely my favorite of the “Casual” OP format. Each week when you show up to play at your store, whether you just play games, deckbuild, or participate in Star Wars Unlimited in any way, you will get a Booster Pack that will include 3 cards. Of these 3 cards, 2 will always be a common, and 1 will be a Rare with a chance at a Holo-Foil. Pictured below is the “Rare” they demonstrated with a pretty sweet Sabine alt art.

Note that Sabine is an uncommon card normally, so it seems like anything Uncommon and above could be in that Rare Slot. They confirmed the 17/20 numbering indicates that there are 20 different cards you can see in this pack. I’m excited to start collecting these week-to-week just by showing up and playing some SWU with my friends!

Lastly, they walked us through the “Store Showdown” kits, which will feel similar to Store Championships for FFG game veterans. They are more casual than Store Championships were though in previous games, as you will receive an alt-art Promo for attending, and Top 8 Performers will also receive a different alt-art Promo. Pictured below is a new card reveal Takedown that they announced as the Participation card for the first Store Showdown kit.

Card thoughts aside (this replaces Vanquish in a lot of decks!), the art treatment is cool and I look forward to all the different ways they are creating promos from the card pool through Hyperspace, Foils, Showcase, and OP Promos! The Store Showdown kit also includes a Booster Box to be used as prize support, but they indicated it would not be awarded based on performance (fitting the Casual aspect of Organized Play).
I’m a fan of the pricing details and seeing more and more Promo cards just keeps getting me even more hyped for the game! The Casual support for OP also got me a lot more excited than I expected. Back in Star Wars Destiny, a couple times a year FFG would send a promo pack and all the cards would be handed out (with lackluster art and card choice) and that would be that. With the Booster pack format, lots of options, and sweet card art, I am super excited for the week-to-week aspect of Unlimited.
What was your favorite part of the stream reveals? Did you want to see anything else from the Organized Play announcements? What are you planning on purchasing product-wise? Are you going to attend a Pre-Release?
