Happy Monday! Time to go through the cards spoiled in the prior week and share our first impressions. It was a pretty light week overall!

FFG revealed the first card on Twitter and Instagram.

Justin – At a quick glance, it seems like a very average card that will likely be called draft filler by most. Currently though in the card pool, it plays in a strong position of getting valuable trades as a 3/3 against all the cheap Hero space units (Wing Leader, Alliance x-wing, Restored ARC). Unfortunately, it is the opposite effect against Villain decks. I like the cards they’ve added that care about initiative, but ultimately don’t think this one will see a ton of play.

Tyler – My initial take is that this one of the worst cards in the game. Without the initiative it’s below curve- with the initiative it’s only slightly above. A card with more downside than upside is unlikely to see play. It’s a green unit, which has some synergy with Yularen, but future utility is really going to rest on if the Fringe keyword gets a powerful hook.

FFG debuted this card (and the Store Showdown Prize version) on last Wednesday’s Product stream.

Justin – Love the art, love the card, instantly slotting this in over Vanquish in my Luke/Yellow deck. While it isn’t always as playable as Vanquish, the fact that it can interact with Leaders is MASSIVE! 5 or less is a level where you can chip away with a small unit and then drop Takedown. This will be a staple in many blue decks.

Tyler – Blue control decks rejoice! Vanquish is a bit of a blunt instrument- this is a more min/max-able card with a higher skill cap- and it’s CHEAPER. I expect this in all blue decks, probably as a three-of. Poor leader Sabine just took a big hit (she can get instantly killed by this). Also hyped to have access to a Hyperspace, full-art version of this early!

FFG tweeted this card out on Friday

Justin – His ability will be most interesting in an aggro deck full of Raid units that can maximize the extra hits while staying at 3 or less power. Currently, there are no villain Raid units though, so it’s hard to say if that archetype will materialize. There’s other obvious combo plays like being able to instantly defeat a DJ Deathstar to bump to 6 resources during Round 4 and bring out the Grand Inquisitor early- then he can ready someone else with his Unit side.

Tyler tweeted some additional insight into the design process that revealed Grand Inquisitor was originally a 5-cost leader, but the above interaction was proving too strong. I think we’re going to have to be in wait and see mode as the current card pool doesn’t interact enough with him yet IMO. If you wanted to build him now, I think Blue would be the best option.

Tyler – There’re only a few units in the current cardpool that could make good use of this ability – Rugged Survivors, First Legion Snowtrooper, and Boba Fett. That’s just not enough to build around. I’m a little perplexed by the design decision to bump him up to 6 resources because that puts him in mid-range deck territory instead of Aggro, where his ability indicates he wants to be. Vader has the “kill my own unit” strategy covered better IMO anyway. A big TBD on what we do with the Inquisitor.

That’s it for last week’s spoilers! What cards are you most excited about? Are there any specific archetypes you’ve been enjoying in the cards revealed?
