We’ve known for some time that Hero Blue/Yellow is a powerful color combo. Thanks to being the featured colors in the starter, we’ve had more time to deckbuild with them than almost any others. It’s no surprise then, with the release of Jedi Lightsaber and Luke Skywalker (unit) last week, that Hero Blue/Yellow would rise up once more!

We’ll try and keep this deck updated as it evolves on our SWUDB account.

This deck has flexibility with its gameplan. The ideal involves using Han’s leader ability in Round 4, followed by deploying Leader Han and attacking with him to get to 7 resources to drop a big hitter like other Han Solo or Luke Skywalker to take control of the battlefield. But that’s not the only line of play- let’s dive in!

Play Style

The unique ability Han has is, at any point of the game, to temporarily jump ahead one round on resources. Where is this most impactful? Apart from the Round 4 combo outlined above, the strongest point is Round 1. If we have the Millenium Falcon, Ezra Bridger, or Yoda in our opening hand we are generally happy to go that route by using Han’s leader ability and playing 1 of those 3 cards. The Falcon gets us out to a hot and heavy aggro strategy, whereas Ezra or Yoda provides early ground control. Starting with a Force User opens the potential combo of Yoda or Ezra round 1 and following them up with a backbreaking Jedi Lightsaber on them round 2.

An aside about the Jedi Lightsaber- this card is incredibly good on a unit with the Force trait. An Ezra or Yoda with a lightsaber can slay a unit with either 8 or 7 health, respectively (don’t forget the minus -2 health counts toward the kill.) Slapping this combo down in either round 2 or 3 means this deck will have excellent board control. And playing for board control is what this deck wants to do in the mid-game! Killing your opponent’s biggest units prevents a pesky Overwhelming Barrage or an aggressive deck quickly burning your base down.

Should the game go long, this deck fares very well in the late game. The aforementioned power units of Han and Luke come at seven resources, but they’re supplemented by excellent 6-drops, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Change of Heart. In the event an opponent stops your Han Round 4 combo by either killing or exhausting him, you can fall back on these cards. Obi sets up the subsequent round excellently by making ground attacks unappealing to your opponent. Change of Heart can massively swing a game by stealing a large or upgraded unit. CoA is also an ideal counter to opposing sentinels.

What cards are we looking to add?

  • Cards that leverage the Force trait – The designers have teased repeatedly that the Force trait is the most powerful one in the set. Currently, we only have Jedi Lightsaber, Binds and Obi-Wan to take advantage of it. I’d welcome a new card that leveraged our five Force-users.
  • Quality Space Options – Falcon and Restored Arc are good, but we could use a third go-to unit.
  • A Better Removal Card – The limitations of Takedown get more obvious the longer we play it. It’s just hard to trade-up into real value. Something that comboed better with our units would be an easy swap.

What cards are on the chopping block?

  • Alliance X-Wing – It’s the generic space unit we’re waiting to replace with a better option.
  • Takedown – See above about better removal.
  • Greedo – There’s few events in this build so we’re unlikely to get his defeat ability. A solid two-drop could take his spot.

Additional Flavor you could slot in

Everyone has a bit spice they add to their builds. Here are a few options you might consider swapping into the list above.

  • VanquishWith Jedi Lightsaber now a thing, un-Takedown-able, high-health units are a problem. Vanquish might be coming back to this build for them.
  • Asteroid SanctuaryIt’s a solid card that could provide a shield for Yoda or Ezra in addition to exhausting an opponent’s big unit.
  • It Binds All ThingsWe’re still toying around to see if this fits. There’s enough Force units in the deck to make it work, but it might be too situational. Give it a shot and let us know!

That’s all for today! Have you gotten any games in with Blue Han? What’s your favorite deck to play so far? Check out some gameplay below from last week and keep an eye on our YouTube in the coming weeks if you want to more Han in action!
