Pre-release week has come and gone and hopefully everyone was able to attend at least one! I was able to play in three events and I quickly realized there were some cards I needed to take a second look at for constructed. Here’s 5 that stuck out to me!
Concord Dawn Interceptors – Space’s New Defender

Concord Dawn Interceptors was a card I briefly looked at in testing for decks that weren’t too interested in contesting the space lane. After seeing them often throughout pre-release, they really can pull their weight in almost any deck. A 3/4 defensive sentinel for 3 is something we haven’t had access to so far. Space aggro seems to be even more prevalent in the set 2 meta, so I fully expect the Interceptors to find a lot of love.
Valiant Assault Ship – An Efficient Ramp Punisher

Valiant Assault Ship is already an okay space unit at 3/4 Saboteur for 4 resources, but after playing around with it I started to realize there’s a lot of places this card can fit. Aggro decks can typically turn on the On Attack from about Round 5 or 6 on without any problem, and even quicker when facing the Ramp decks.
Adelphi Patrol Wing – Solid Space Chunk

The Adelphi Patrol Wing was one I initially wrote off as probably not being impactful enough given it has a conditional Fleet Lt. ability on a more expensive body. Turns out a 4/6 body in space is pretty big, the ability isn’t too hard to turn on in, and the lack of a Rebel aspect isn’t too detrimental.
Spark Of Hope – Heroism’s Ramp Delivered

I didn’t think Spark of Hope was a bad card, but I was worried in actual play that it could be difficult to sequence properly in rounds I wanted to play it. While that could change in high level contructed play, it felt pretty easy to pull off and I think green hero will be very happy to be running this ramp card.
Kylo Ren – Low Curve Combo Man

Lastly Kylo Ren started spinning my brain! When Kylo and Rey were revealed, I wasn’t super high on either seeing constructed play. They have great stats and strong abilities, but effectively do nothing the round they are played. While we always have the classic ECL and now Timely Intervention to get some immediate impact, its easy to say every card is great when you ECL it. What really had me thinking are the implications of combining Kylo with cards like Motti that can really take advantage of his On Attack. Swinging for 8 and then 10 after that sounds like a fun combo deck, and can happen sooner than the Darth Vader shenanigans people loved in set 1.
Are there any cards you’ve been more impressed with after pre-release weekend? What are some of your favorite cards thus far?
