Meta Snapshot Updates

This week we’re making major changes to our Meta Snapshot as a result of GenCon!

First, we’re removing three mono color archetypes that didn’t see play/success over the three days of GenCon- that demonstrates a lack of faith in them by a wide swath of the competitive community. These are: Sabine/Red, Han2/Red, and Iden/Blue. Sabine/Red and Han2/Red simply fall behind Sabine/Green in the aggro arms race. The ability to ECL a Wrecker or Poe just puts that deck in a separate category. Iden/Blue, despite receiving some new tools in set 2, is struggling to compete. There are now many tools that can punish the Iden player for playing Childsen and the deck doesn’t pack the same punch it did in set 1.

Second, we’re moving with the community on which is the best Hero/Red/Blue deck. The fundamental plan of all these archetypes is to play value units while eating the opponent’s hand with Force Throw, K2SO and Pillage. We were skeptical of the power level of Rey/Red, so it was exciting to see Han2/Blue evolving as a more powerful alternative. As such we’re removing Rey/Red and adding Han2/Blue to the snapshot.

Third, we have a late addition to the aggro lane: Kylo/Yellow. This deck took 1st this week in a Pittsburgh 1K and has the kind of YOLO game plan you need to out-aggro Sabine. It was lurking at the top GenCon tables and stealing games with its plan to load up Toro Calican with upgrades. It’s fun to see new leaders and archetypes coming to the top!
