Well if you’ve made it this far, then we must first make sure you saw today’s leader reveal that just went up!

Justin – This party’s over! Super hype we’re getting a Mace Windu leader, and boy do I LOVE the art on this one by Eric Hibbeler. Eric also drew the Luke Skywalker from SoR which I adore in hyperspace.
The obvious mechanics comparison is Darth Vader, but this feels like the first showing of a potential Hero control leader coming out at 7 resources. Thus far the competitive meta has mostly revolved around 5 resource deploy (unless you’re Palpatine or Sabine), so it will be interesting to see if the card pool expanding can open up room for the 6 and 7 cost resource leaders to shine. The Hero aggression card pool has been pretty low to the ground thus far, so I hope we see some better top-end in the aspect this set!
Outside of that, I’m interested to see if we get more cards like Bombing Run and the recently revealed Blood Sport that will play well with his leader and unit deploy abilities! Mace may end up being the anti-token unit gatekeeper, as he could end up being the best leader to run the cards that can defeat tokens with ease and still use them to great effect in other matchups.
Tyler – Yes! Hero control here we come. My first reaction is to play him in a double-red deck that could take advantage of other damaged-unit bonuses like Tarkintown or IG-11. My boi Wild Rancor gon’ be EATIN! The designers have been hinting that this set is where they start pushing different color combos into new deck archetypes, and Mace is a great start for Hero Red!
Jayson – I love that this branches Hero Red out firmly into Control territory. So much in this game has synergy with “damage” and he’s reach on a stick. I think the biggest question is whether he can find a way to consistently reach his deploy turn without the board being completely out of control. The list of tools he’ll have to do that with is only getting longer. I’m pretty excited to play around with this dude.
Now to get into our card!

Justin – This card is sick! The value is insane if you can consistently play this on Mace Windu, so I hope we see a cheaper unit of him this set! Since the SoR version (and the leader version just revealed) cost 7, this isn’t an ability you will make happen early in the game otherwise. Beyond how well this plays on Mace Windu, I think aggro decks like Sabine will love finally having access to another upgrade with the heroism aspect (as to not hurt their Facibi numbers)!
Tyler – Comparing the overcosted card draw on Mission Briefing to this makes me scratch my head about how the designers cost draw effects. Needless to say, this is hyper-efficient draw and, if you can consistently have Mace out, could prove to be some of the most potent in the game. Don’t forget you can always play another copy on top of an existing one to get the two cards. With recursion like Razor Crest, this might be a draw machine.
Jayson – The best card draw in the game in terms of pure math if you can trigger it consistently. It would take 9 resources to do that with the existing Mace Windu unit, so my guess is you really badly want to slap this on Leader Mace. Vader’s pretty annoying to get rid of at 7/5/8, and people mostly stopped teching for that, so maybe in this instance Magical Christmas Land isn’t all that out of reach. The upside is there.
