Spoiler season is in full swing, and we are exstatic about the power level of cards we’re seen thus far. After Shadows of the Galaxy and Twilight of the Republic being a bit underwhelming compared to Spark of Rebellion, Jump to Lightspeed feels poised to break open the meta!
Here’s some early preview cards that the Rollers are excited about.
Jayson’s Picks

Ahsoka – I think she’s cracked! 4 cost is right at the point where you really want some kind of instant payoff upon entry so that your investment is not totally invalidated by value trades. Not only does this effect give you that instant, tangible payoff, it’s justttt the right amount of impact to where you don’t have to pay for it too bad on Ashoka’s stats. On top of that, the Force trait and color slots her right into an existing Red/Yellow Hero shell that was already successfully attacking hands and utilizing Force Throw. Ahsoka ticks all the boxes and is guaranteed to play a meaningful role in her decks.

Chewbacca – Finally my boy Chewie gets a genuinely fantastic card. This is as good as built-in protection gets in terms of the wording of the text. Lurking TIE made a splash because it came down early enough to get pressure. I’m interested to see whether Chewie’s higher cost and ground lane presence makes this text more or less impactful…but at the same time, I’m not really worried about those differences, because you could theoretically drop him on a T1 space unit and be doing the Lurking TIE thing on the same turn except the unit is ready. If there’s a world where he’s bad, I’m not smart enough to grok it. Chewie seems like a winner to me.
Justin’s Picks

Wedge Antilles – After living in a mostly pure Sabine world of Aggro for the first year of the game, I am really hopeful for someone to break open the aggro archetype. Wedge is the first leader I’ve felt has a really good shot! With some early game resource cheat to build up bigger units to hit fast and hard, Wedge can hit like a truck! I’m curious to see if we finally get some more ground vehicles to really take advantage of pilots on both arenas, but even if we don’t, I suspect a space aggro Wedge deck will do pretty well in the JtL meta.

Devastator – What can I say, I’m a simple man. Big ship goes pew pew and I’m a fan! Solid stats and a decent on play ability are pretty good, but the ability to assign indirect damage as you wish is what has me most hype about the Devastator 2.0. Anyone that played Star Wars Destiny can tell you that indirect damage was pretty viable when you could pump out enough of it. If we can take advantage of all the units that will deal extra damage via indirect means compared to their direct counterparts by being able to assign the damage as direct AND spreadable, we are cookin up a pretty mean stew!
Tyler’s Picks

Director Krennic – It’s odd to call a 2-cost unit a build-around, but here it is. The Director is the going to be the foundational card of multiple archetypes. Whether that’s Thrawn and his double-defeating shenanigans, Dooku and his exploiting tricks, or Gar Saxon shielded aggro- Krennic can do it all. Not to mention that he’s probably potent enough just on stats and keyword alone to see play in mainstream Blue Villian decks- Ruthless Raider on 5 anyone? Find Krennic wherever blue villain is played!

Admiral Piett – Uhh, resource cheating is GOOD. Also, capital ships are good. See Justin’s note above about the Devastator. The idea that these could come out THREE turns early with Piett + Ramp is kind of insane. I’m not sure the world is ready for R7 SoR Devastators but here we are. Not to mention his useful keywords and well-timed flip turn. Ruthless Raider on 4 anyone?

Ruthless Raider – And the card from JtL I’m most excited to play with/against is… wait… this card isn’t in Set 4? Surely, it’s a reprint?? … What do you mean it’s a Set 1 card!? It’s the bloody combo pair for basically everything in the set! …. Fine. It’s not a S4 card, but it already feels like THE card of the set.
