After experiencing the first Galactic Championship last weekend, we’re back to update our meta snapshot to reflect the results!

The big surprise of the tournament was the rise of Kylo/Red driven by the Bothan Network crew who took the deck to the championship finals. While we foresaw Kylo being a force, we didn’t see the red tech that the Bothans would bring to the table.

Beyond that, the other successful decks of the tournament were largely covered by our snapshot.

The first removal we have today is Han1/Green. It’s thoroughly apparent after the GC that a deck vulnerable to Force Throw (and discard more generally) simply won’t be able to compete in this meta. Given that Han was a top meta deck only a few months ago, it’s a marked drop.

The second was a more speculative aggro pick, Poe/Green. With the general shift to space among aggro deck this set, we thought Poe would have a chance to shine, but he failed to make a noticeable dent at Galactics.

The big question going forward is what will the fate of Force Throw be? Looking strictly at the GC results, where Force Throw was six of the top eight decks, you might think FFG would be eager to make changes. However, the Galactic Open- the first tournament of the new competitive season – was won by Cad/Red which did not include Force Throw. The vibe leaving the GC, where we were lucky enough to be in the mix with the designers, was down on the prospects of a ban. However, that doesn’t mean the development team won’t reach a different decision over the following weeks…
