Our team has produced a lot of SWU content since we started just after GenCon in August of 2023 (7 months before release!) Since we’re closing up shop, one of the things I wanted to do was highlight some of the best articles we’ve produced in our two years of operation. We hope y’all enjoy these as much as we have!

The New Player Guide

This is a big one, and my hope is that another SWU content creator will be willing to take it on permanently. This guide has helped thousands of SWU players, many new to TCGs, get acquainted with the basics. It houses some our best articles like my Player Archetypes rundown, the Cost Curve series, and our Slang Dictionary.

Leader Evaluations

This series began with an excellent article by Jayson about leader design in SWU that was later expanded to judge Set 5 and 6 leaders on those same criteria. If you want to understand why some leaders see meta success and some don’t, look no further!

Cantina Decks

Cantina decks are easy-to-assemble, easy-to-play, thematic decks that are great for teaching or fun. While we haven’t published them for every set, the fundamental premise was a great one that we’re very proud of.

The Fantasy Draft Series

Each set, Garbage Rollers has teamed with some of the best players in SWU to do a fantasy-draft-style evaluation of the new set. Initially, these were excellent primers on what the competitive meta for each new set would be. In retrospect, they’re great fun to see who picked the winners and losers of each set!

Guinea Pigs | The Wild Ride Of OP Season 0

Of all the articles we’ve written, no other article has been mentioned to us more by FFG staff. A half-dozen told me through pained smiles how much they “appreciated” us holding them accountable for the Organized Play failures in the game’s first year. Some of the issues identified here remain live, so it’s lost none of its currency!

Dinner with Jim

This is one of earliest articles Jayson wrote for us and is probably still his opus. It’s based on his live, hours-long discussion with Jim Cartwright at the SWU pre-release celebration at the Mall of America in February 2024. At the time, it wasn’t clear at all if SWU was going to be a commercial success, or if FFG could successfully distance itself from past missteps in games like Star Wars: Destiny. The night chronicled here is where SWU became a winner in the eyes of the content creator community and Jayson’s retelling is a masterful one!

We hope y’all have enjoyed these as much as we have. It’s been a fun two years. May the SWUniverse be good to you!
