ICYMI, Fantasy Flight Games blessed us a large info drop on Boosters with an official article, a reveal through TCGPlayer, and with another stream yesterday! Below is a recap in text/image format in case you missed it or don’t have the time for a video.

We got the contents of every booster pack laid out:

QuantityRarity
9Common
3Uncommon
1Rare or Legendary
1Leader (Any Rarity)
1Base (Common)
1Foil (Any Rarity)

First and foremost, a huge step in the right direction to include a leader and base in every pack for Limited Play! In previous FFG Games like Star Wars Destiny, you had to buy a separate “draft pack” to supplement your drafted/opened cards and you rarely could build a deck without using parts of this product. With this set-up, you will always be able to build a deck with just the cards drafted/opened for limited.

From there, we get the debut of Hyperspace cards in addition to the Foil cards. Any card in a pack can be a Hyperspace variant, including leaders bases, and the foil card! I’m personally excited to see some of the cards that will look fantastic with this effect. Full art promos were always some of my favorite cards in Star Wars Destiny, and this mostly achieves the same effect.

Lastly they debuted the “Showcase cards” which are full alt-art cards and will only be 1 in every 12 booster boxes! That definitely ups the interest for any collectors out there.

With the extra chances for special cards, somebody out there is bound to open this exciting pack possibility!

If you want a full breakdown of odds, FFG and TCGPlayer’s articles both had the above breakdown in image form.

FFG’s Image also revealed that there will be 24 booster packs in every box, so if we cautiously expect around a $5.99 MSRP for packs, that puts us at the same MSRP of Lorcana at $143.76 a booster box. Realistically I’m hoping it’ll be more in the $4-$5 range a pack for $15 drafts, but we should get the finer details on pricing on next week’s FFG stream on September 27th!

Overall, this has me super excited for the game! The added collectability of foils and chase cards has SWU set-up to be a real contender in the CCG game space. This feels like the first real competitive shot FFG has taken at coming near the Big 3 of CCG’s (Magic, Pokemon, Yugioh) and having a long running card game.

Lastly, FFG hit us with a spicy card reveal!

No need to wait until next Monday for our thoughts on this card!

Justin – It looks like Vigilance (Blue) will definitely be the mill color! So far Kanan and Sabine are the only Spectres revealed, but you would think we can expect to see the full line-up of Hera, Ezra, Zeb, and maybe Chopper as well! In Constructed, mill doesn’t have the tools to really be a win condition yet, but in limited play Kanan is going to be quite annoying. With 30 card decks in Draft format, you’ll be starting the game with a 24 card deck. That means if you don’t draw or discard any cards, you’ll be out of cards after Round 12. Effects like Kanan who discard 1+ cards on attack will likely impact the game.

Tyler – From a constructed value standpoint, Kanan is on par for a 4-cost ground unit. Therefore, Kanan’s value likely depends on his hooks. He’s got four of them- Force, Jedi, Rebel and Spectre – so you can spot him to do a lot of different stuff. I don’t know which deck he’ll slot into, but my guess is it’ll be because that deck needed just one more unit with Kanan’s keywords.

What was your favorite part of the booster pack info reveal? Are you excited to crack some boosters next year? We got another little tease of “First half of 2024” for the release date in FFG’s article!
