Welcome back! We first debuted this deck back in September and thanks to the cards revealed since then, it’s continued to evolve. The deck’s original hero, Leia, has been replaced by her beau, Han, and we’re ready to hit some home runs with Hero Yellow/Green again! Before we drive into the deck tech, THANK YOU to everyone on SWUDB who’s helped make this the most popular deck to date.

We will keep the deck updated on swudb.

True to our namesake, we start by adding 3 Home Ones and 3 Admiral Ackbars. From there we ask what color gives us the best card pool to work with? Cunning (Yellow) has great stall tricks in Leia Organa (the unit), Shoot First, Asteroid Sanctuary, and Change of Heart so it’s a natural match.

From there, our go-to ramp option is Resupply, so we throw in 3 of those to race towards Home One. We’re also running the newly spoiled Bright Hope which can target Leia or Ackbar and recur their powerful “when played” effects. Wedge Antilles, which, in addition to the great synergy he has with Bright Hope, enhances Home One by allowing it to strike the turn it comes down.

We’re opting not to play R2-D2 in this deck and instead letting C-3PO team up with Ezra Bridger who can also show us the top card of the deck. R2 just doesn’t have enough impact in a deck where we’re aiming to get to 7 or 8 resources as quickly as possible.

The most controversial choice in the deck is the inclusion of 2 Overwhelming Barrages. Since it’s a villain card, we’ll have to pay 2 extra for it at 7-cost. So far, this is the only card in the game I’m willing to pay the 2-cost penalty for. The ability to wipe the opponent’s board with a well-timed Barrage is just too valuable to leave out of any deck that’s either Green or Villain.

Play Style

Using or not using Han’s ability (and when) is the key decision in the deck. Han round 1 to play the Falcon can allow you to deal base damage and pressure opponents- especially those playing 25 health bases. Otherwise, you’ll typically wait to use Han’s ability until it’s time to play your big units- either Shoot First Han or Home One. To do this, you’ll ramp to 5 or 6 resources, then use Han’s ability to go up one, followed by deploying him and adding another. The result is a Big Impact unit out 2 rounds early (three if you played Resupply). Both Han and Home one can carry you over the finish line from there.

What kind of cards are we looking to add?

  • A third closer unit – Preferably one that is 7-cost. Mace Windu in Hero red makes this deck very envious.
  • A Hero version of Overwhelming Barrage – Having to pay the extra two cost for the effect isn’t the best feeling. Hopefully, Hero Green will get a comparable board wipe.
  • A cost-efficient ground Sentinel – We don’t have a lot of good options for stopping opposing units on the ground. That can be a liability while ramping.

What cards are on the chopping block?

Wing Leader – Even with Wedge upping the value of this card, it fits in a very crowded 3-cost slot. Since it’s not always guaranteed to have a target, it’d be nice to replace him with something more consistent.

C-3P0 – He’s a little lonely without R2. While his efficiency is high enough to hold a spot for now, we suspect a better 2-drop will come around.

What cards are also viable options?

R2-D2 Are we mentioned above, we personally don’t see the added value being enough to include R2 as well with his buddy 3po, but you may. One of the coolest Round 1 plays in the game is using Han’s leader ability and deploying both R2-D2 and C-3P0, but the odds are quite low of seeing it very often.

Smuggling CompartmentThere’s enough vehicles in the deck that you could get away with running this card and generally being pleased seeing it come up. The tough part is you sometimes find yourself at a lower hand size playing Han and drawing a 1 cost low impact card may not do it for you.

Waylay Always a card to have on your mind as a meta call. For this reason I don’t automatically slot it in to decks and leave it as an add-in option.

Chewbacca – This is your mid-game Sentinel option, we just generally don’t feel like we get great value out of him.

Agent Kallus Kallus is always at the top of my list to try and stick into a green unit. He can generally get a lot of mid-game value with his Ambush and card draw on play, but at the moment he’s on the outside looking in for this deck. Generally when we get to 5 resources, we’re trying to do our big play into Han or drop Wedge in anticipation for the next round of Home One.

That’s all for today! Have you gotten any games in yet with Home One Derby? How are you building yours? What’s your favorite deck to play so far?
