In the past on Fridays, we would scour the holonet and post a detailed list of all the Content put out for the game in the past week. Now we point you over to SWUHolocron who does a much better job than us keeping track of all this content posted daily! You can check this link for videos and this link for articles! They also have a comprehensive list of all Content Creators that have posted content for Star Wars Unlimited found here. There’s a ton of other great resources on their site that I encourage you to look around!

This Friday we take a look at one of the Content Creators that will be joining us tomorrow at the #SWUCommunity event, RybackStun!

RybackStun

Tell us about your yourself! What are your hobbies? What do you enjoy outside of the TCG world

HARK! I am RybackStun! I’ve been a Content Producer on the internet for about 12 years, a Card Gamer for 30 years, and an all around nerd for my whole life!

Outside of TCGs I play Miniatures games like Warhammer and lots of video games in various different genres! I haven’t really dug into it since I moved to Minnesota, but I also used to be an avid comic book reader for lots of different series.

What is your background/experience in the TCG world?

I’ve played Magic: The Gathering off and on since 1996, I’ve played tons of Star Wars Card games (Decipher, Young Jedi, LCG, Destiny, WotC’s TCG), anime card games (Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Naruto, DBS, Digimon), Fantasy (WarCry, Flesh and Blood), Sci-Fi, just far far too many card games.

At one point in time I was attempting to become a competitive player for a game known as Bleach, based on the anime of the same name, and right before a double round of high level events, Score was purchased by Panini and all of Score’s games were dissolved. I was not very happy, lol.

What is one specific archetype or playstyle that defines each of you in card games?

I’ve said this before on one of my videos, but Aggro really is my archetype. I’m not a huge fan of Control, but I can play it, and Mid-Range is alright but why play the game for a long time when you can play real quickly! Punching people in the face (in game) is my favorite pastime!

One of my favorite moments in YGO was when a friend of mine and I would get paired up at locals. He’d be running Six Samurai, his favorite deck at the time, and I would be running Gladiator Beats, my favorite deck at the time. We’d sit there and play set after set after set. By the time the round was finished, we’d have run through Best of Three SETS not Bo3 Games and people would be absolutely bewildered at our speed. It’s not just that we knew the match-up so well and neither one of us ever TRULY had the edge over the other, we just knew our decks inside and out and knew what was coming, what needed to happen, and the plays to win or counter. Fun Aggro times.

Tell us about how you got into Star Wars Unlimited. What drew you to Star Wars Unlimited as a game?

I have been bouncing around games like M:TG, FaB, and a few other minor games and was really looking for something Star Warsy and fun to play. My favorite Star Wars card game is the original LCG from FFG and when I saw they were making a collectible game without the dice, I was in!

Beyond even that I was just really looking for a card game to throw myself into. Sure I could have jumped into Competitive Magic or really dive into FaB, but right as I was about to make the full decision for FaB, FFG announced SWU. I made a video about it within a couple days and the rest is history!

What kind of content do you make for Star Wars Unlimited?

Right now I primarily work with going over all the previews for the game before it officially releases, but I do intend to do some analysis of sets/aspects as a whole, deck builds, and gameplay games whenever I feel they’re worth the time.

What do you envision your average viewers as? Competitive? Casual? Collector? Etc

My average viewer is hopefully someone looking for some guidance about what makes the game great, what makes specific cards great and/or fun, and the type of person that is able to grab data out in the world but ultimately make their own decision on what is right for them! There’s insight to be had for all of the types of players in the C3OP system!

What is your favorite thing about making content for SWU so far?

The responses from the community! It’s been a while since I’ve had this level of engagement from people I wasn’t already known by, so it’s cool to see all the people that come by and leave a comment on the videos and tell me why I’m wrong! Hah!

What do you hope for content to look like for you once the game releases?

My hope is that there’s content levels for everyone to enjoy and we all support each other out here in the wasteland that is the internet. One of my favorite things to see in other games is the collaborations between Content Producers and the various Community Brands that exist!

What are you most excited about for SWU?

Getting cards in hand!!!

But for real, just being able to play theme decks and have lots of fun with friends, local communities, and national communities!

REY!

What is your process for building a brand new deck in Star Wars Unlimited?

Pick a theme! Decide what I want my deck to do and pick out about 8-12 cards to drop as playsets for that theme. Then make sure I’m running the proper leader and base for the cards I want to play in the deck. Finally I fill out things that either protect my own strategy or disrupt my opponent’s strategy!

Where do you land on purchasing product, singles to build the competitive decks or full playsets? Do you plan on hunting any of the special variant cards?

I’m one of those dumb dumbs that advocates buying singles and then purchases a case on my own! I love opening packs because it’s fun to pick through things and see cards from a point of view that just buying singles on the internet doesn’t really do for you. I will likely end up having to buy singles for playsets that I will want to complete, but I also hope some local drafts and sealed events will net me either the cards I need in the packs or some actual TRADES to work with others to get us all something cool!

Once the game releases, in an ideal world, how often do you see yourself playing draft or sealed vs constructed games?

Ultimately this is going to come down to what the local community decides! If they want to draft every week, I might have to step out here and there but I’m down. But I imagine there will be plenty to do regardless each time I show up for a local event!

Ultimately, I’m probably looking at 70% Constructed and 30% Limited, just to save me some money in the long haul.

What has been your favorite community experience in Star Wars Unlimited thus far?

Interacting with you all on Twitter and in the Discord! I’ve been having some personal issues lately and seeing people from this community that I wasn’t expecting to interact with jump out and support me in the difficult times has been really nice and really validating after years of dealing with people who just aren’t very nice!

Star Wars is a SUPER divisive topic but I’m seeing a lot more people just talking and hanging out than I expected and it makes it easier to deal with some of the not so nice people just trying to bring others down!

Any last thoughts you’d like to share?

It’s been an absolute pleasure to share this space with y’all and hang out with the various sections of the community! I’m excited to meet people IRL and get some REAL games in with cards here VERY soon! We’ll need to do a Content Producer draft pod here IRL sometime after the game launches if we can coordinate at a Con or something!

Also Parker is an absolute MVP for us and y’all should go watch The Force Unlimited!

Be sure to check out Ryback on YouTube! He uploads a weekly Spoiler and News recap, among other planned Star Wars Unlimited content in the future! You can also expect to see content from him following the #SWUCommunity event this weekend where we all get to sit down, open some real packs, draft, and have a good time!

That’s it for today. We hope you got a good introduction to Ryback and what you can look forward to seeing from him in the future!
