Well if you’ve made it this far, then you can see Xander hooked us up again with a Jawa card! We love the art on this one, and the ability is quite interesting! Keep scrolling for our first thoughts on the card.

Justin – I love everything about this card except for the stats. Generally we expect around 6-7 stats for a 3 cost unit, and right off the bat we’re at 4 with 2 power and 2 health. The ability is super interesting though, and reduces the cost of playing the card by putting another card back in your hand! I think where this card will really shine is pulling back a bomb late game for your resource row to help close out a game. It will probably be a limited format card, but there also could be some combo potential in the future.
It’s interesting to note that the ability specifically calls out returning the resourced card to its owner’s hand, so I am quite interested to see if there are any shenanigans in the future that allow us to resource something negative for our opponent and then send it to their hand.
Tyler – A major theme of this set is leveraging the cards you’ve put down as resources, so no surprise that the Jawa also works in that zone. Since the stats aren’t in a great spot for constructed, my hope is that we’re looking at an incomplete combo piece. If there was a card the temporarily granted us a resource, then Jawa Scavenger could convert it to a permanent resource. (Such an ability would have to be worded differently than Han to make that happen.)
Super excited to see another Jawa in the game and can’t wait for the Set 8(?) cycle that gives us a bunch of unique Jawas and meta-breaking trait synergy for them!
Jayson – Amazing art, and a total honor to have our Jawa bonafides recognized for the second set in a row! Trader is totally card neutral and gives us a lot of flexibility as we resource, especially if we’re already packing lots of Smuggle. Is that worth the low stats? Could be, especially in mono-Cunning.

Justin – The obvious first comparison is Grogu, who packs the same stat line and cost on the hero side. I really enjoyed Doctor Pershing’s character in the Mandalorian show, and I’m excited to see him in the game already! Important to note his ability does not state another friendly unit, so he is able to target himself and take a damage in order to draw a card.
Since you draw 2 cards a round in Star Wars Unlimited, card draw hasn’t felt as strong as it normally would in a TCG. It still has strength though, and you can use cards like Inferno Four to filter that draw better. A 5-health body is also a decent option for upgrades, so I’m pretty optimistic the Doctor will see constructed play!
Tyler – Every time we get repeatable card draw; we get closer to truly viable swarm decks. I’m not sure that will be Villian Blue’s archetype, but it’s something to keep an eye on. I’m excited to combine the doctor with First Light and get some powerful Grit synergy happening. Of course, Director Krennic will also love this ability. It’s fun seeing him develop as the “Research & Development” leader for Villain, which is an archetype I just can’t get enough of!
Jayson – I think this guy is best in class for what he does- the question is whether Villain Blue actually will want to end up doing that thing. Right now that color is all about late game payoffs, but there’s no reason it has to stay in that zone, since cards like Death Trooper and Power of the Dark Side already exist as great midrange tools. My gut says Pershing sees play and is a strong piece of this color’s toolbox in the second set.
